Silverware
The exhibition is closed owing to restoration work.
The Old Town has one of the largest exhibitions of silverware in
the country.
The exhibition shows works from 310 different gold smiths from
44 different market towns; from the oldest gold smith Niels Christensen
who obtained citizenship in Aarhus in 1637 to Henning Koppel, born in
1918, who was a world famous designer at Georg Jensen's in Copenhagen.
From baroque to functionalism
Mintmaster Christian Wineke the elder, who owned the so called
Mintmaster's Mansion in Copenhagen, which is now being rebuilt in The
Old Town, was also a gold smith. A few of his works are shown in the exhibiton.
The exhibition also holds the world's largest collection of
works by Svend Weihrauch from Hingelberg in Arhus, which is open to
the public as well as works by famous gold smiths and designers such as
Joakim Weller of Holstebro, Thorvald Bindesbøl, Harald Nielsen,
Svend Hammershøj and Sigvard Bernadotte.
